It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Madalena Sebastiao Moniz of Somerville who passed away surrounded by her loving family on July 18, 2025, at the age of 85.
Madalena is proceeded by her beloved parents, Maria Do Carmo (Aguiar) Sebastiao and Joao Sebastiao. Her devoted husband Antonio Manuel Moniz, her cherished son Emanuel “Manny” Sebastiao Moniz, and her adored brothers and sisters Maria do Carmo, Joao, Margarida and Jose.
She is survived by her daughters Helena Moniz and partner John Hyot of Nashua, Rosa Pedro and husband Jose Pedro of Billerica, Lucia Norberg and husband Eric Norberg of Medford, Marta Perry and husband Keith Perry of Nashua, Nelia Buckley and husband Kevin Buckley of Everett.
She is also lovingly remembered by her sister Laura Sebastiao and her brother Ramiro Sebastiao of Sao Miguel, Acores.
Madalena leaves behind 15 cherished grandchildren, Nikayla, Tania, Joseph, Tony, Karina, Nicholas, Mario, Casey, Stephanie, Danny, Alex, Ashelyn, Peter, Kyle and Emma, 5 adored great-grandchildren, Xander, Delilah, Eliana, Samuel and Gustavo. Madalena took immense pride in her family.
She will be greatly missed by her many nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives and friends.
Madalena was born in Feteiras, Sao Miguel, immigrated to the United States in 1984 with her husband and kids and resided in Somerville, Massachusetts for most for her time. Her most important job was to raise her 6 kids, and she did it with great joy and pride. Along with the joys of taking care of her family, she also had a great joy for cooking and, crocheting, but her most passionate love was for reading. She was amazing at everything she did.
A visitation will be held at the Rogers funeral Home, 380 Cambridge Street in Cambridge, on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, from 4:00 to 8:00 pm, with a prayer service in the funeral home at 7:30 pm.
