Mary Rose Lourenco (née Ribeiro), of Somerville, known to much of her family affectionately as “Mãe,” (Portuguese for Mom), passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 5, 2025 at Cambridge Hospital. Born August 17, 1938 and raised in Cambridge, Mary worked for the Polaroid Company for 29 years before retiring to enjoy time with her family. Mary was an animal lover and an avid Bingo enthusiast who supported many local Catholic churches through the years with her participation and attendance, enjoying the community and opportunities for service she found there.
Mary is survived by her brother Manuel J. Ribeiro, Jr., his wife, Joan; and also by her children: Roberta Sullivan (spouse Walter Sullivan), Mark Torres, Joseph R. Lourenco (spouse Jenna Lourenco), and Adrianna Lourenco (partner Danny Gomez); her grandchildren: Matthew Sateriale (spouse Salwa), Emilyrose DaSilva (spouse Kevin), George Mazzeo (spouse Rosa), Connor Lourenco, and Rowan Lourenco; and her great-grandchildren: Xavier, Justine, Anthony, Jason, Jaxon, Brayden, Ryan, Christian, and Emma; as well as her nephews: Manuel J. Ribeiro, III and David Ribeiro.
Mary was predeceased by her husband, José Dos Santos Lourenco, also of Somerville, originally from the Azores, Portugal. She is also predeceased by her nephew, Jason Ribeiro. She was the daughter of Manuel J. Ribeiro, Sr., originally from Portugal, and Mary Rose Bothello, originally from Hanson, MA.
A Mass will be celebrated for Mary on [Monday, July 14th, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, 400 Cardinal Mederios Avenue in Cambridge.
