Emily Ruth Tucker, a mother, teacher and lover of words, numbers and jokes died Monday, May 8, 2023, from complications after a fall.
Emily taught middle-school math for over 30 years. She excelled at explaining mathematical concepts by sharing her humor and love of problem-solving. Emily equally enjoyed tutoring those students who struggled with math and challenging the ones who took to it more easily. In later life she volunteered distributing necessities to unhoused people in Central Square, Cambridge.
Emily was born in Lynn, MA in 1944. After growing up in Massachusetts and Pennsylvania she attended Simmons College, settled in Cambridge, and taught school.
Emily is survived by her sons, Eli and Caleb Tucker-Raymond, her grandchildren Nathaniel, Delphine and Sibyl, her brother Charles Tucker, her sister Marian Tucker, nieces, nephews, and many friends.
